Our story

A Week Abroad sets out to meet those who make their city or region shine.

Craftsmen, chefs, nature enthusiasts, artists, entrepreneurs, and shopkeepers—these local figures are, above all, passionate. They practice their craft with love and humility, passionately pass on their expertise, and strive to perpetuate and reinvent their traditions.

These men and women, who come from different backgrounds, feel a deep attachment to their land. Whether it be their homeland or their heart, it is at the center of their inspiration.

Also affected by the various crises we are going through, these residents are acting for a more united, responsible society that respects our environment.

A Week Abroad tells their stories simply, with humanity, spending time with them and always taking care to accurately capture their perspectives.

A Week Abroad believes that encounters are the very essence of travel. What better way to discover a region than through the secret and intimate address books of iconic locals? Exceptional regional products, delicious restaurants, traditional crafts, and natural treasures—they reveal their favorite spots.

With its publications, A Week Abroad creates links between travelers and locals, encourages meetings and sharing, promotes the local area and thus boosts its economy.

The collection

Our publications are currently distributed in renowned locations in France and abroad, such as the Mucem, the Palais de Tokyo, the Bon Marché, Merci, Alchemy Works, The Cloister and the Yvon Lambert bookstore.

Each one is A5 in size and includes 146 pages. They are in French and English, printed on high-quality creative paper in Marseille by the family-run Caractère printing company. The papers chosen are FSC® certified, sourced from sustainably managed forests, and the detachable cards are printed on recycled paper.

The AWA DNA

Photography is an essential element of the A Week Abroad collection. Photographer Charlène Lambert, the project's editor and founder, is the author of the silver prints featured in its first editions. No retouching is performed to preserve the raw and authentic look of the images. To continue the journey beyond the books, a limited series of numbered and signed art prints is available for each destination.

With a strong sensitivity for art and aesthetics, Charlène also collaborates with a different illustrator for each destination, thus sowing some artistic interludes between texts and photographs.

"Our mission is to encourage travelers to explore the world with curiosity and respect, while promoting responsible tourism and the preservation of local cultures."

Our commitment

Responding to the challenges of sustainable tourism

  • Destination choices which, although sometimes deliberately touristy, allow us to openly address the challenges linked to tourism and bring a different perspective to face them, such as off-season travel, the preservation of know-how, culture and local populations.
  • A careful selection of interviewees gives a voice to those committed to preserving their land. Their practical and committed advice provides travelers with the tools they need to protect and raise awareness of natural, forest, and marine areas.
  • Hand-picked addresses that support a local and committed economy (highlighting local crafts, promoting regional products, accommodations in harmony with nature).

"After working as a producer for advertising agencies in Paris and London, I decided to embark on the A Week Abroad adventure to reinvent travel. Always passionate about different cultures and curious to discover the world and its people, A Week Abroad is now my life project.

Opening minds, creating social bonds and promoting local economies are the actions I wish to promote for responsible and sustainable tourism."
